Mission Operations
The ILRS Central Bureau coordinates the list of satellites tracked by stations in the ILRS network. Stations must restrict their ranging activities to satellites for which the ILRS has ranging approval from the satellite owner, either through the ILRS or though another mechanism. Ranging on unapproved satellites can have very serious consequences for our whole community. The ILRS relies on good will from many agencies in order to conduct our programs.
Satellites are prioritized based on tracking requirements and altitude. Some satellites have restrictions on their tracking by the stations in the ILRS network due to visibility factors or concerns of damage to other satellite sensors.
